I’m currently working on finishing sketchbook #19. Each one is a different brand, size, paper type, or aspect ratio - this keeps me on my toes and gives me new challenges to contend with. Sketchbooks are a low-stakes way to test out new ideas that sometimes make their way into my higher-fidelity work.

Key Learnings:

(1) Good work comes when you can make mistakes. Sketchbooks are such a powerful way to keep my creative muscle in shape because they are low-stakes. Bad drawings are good because it means I’m trying new things and challenging myself.

(2) Drawing in public can open the door for new connections. I love drawing in public because curious passerby's will always ask about what I’m doing. These interactions - sometimes short and sometimes long - are a great way to meet people from around the world. From a pharmacist in Florence to a teacher in Texas, I cherish these interactions.
